Introduced for the D2's final production phase from 2002, the multitronic variant used a 220 PS petrol engine paired with Audi's chain-driven continuously variable multitronic transmission and drove the front wheels only, reaching 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. The multitronic gearbox was designed to offer smooth, stepless ratio changes and was available exclusively with front-wheel-drive powertrains.
