The Beijing Automobile Works (BAW) BJ212, also known as BJ2020, is a four-wheel drive utility vehicle originally powered by a 2.4 L four-cylinder gas engine (diesel engines were introduced in the 2000s). It falls into the light-duty offroad category in the half-tonne class. The vehicle's design was influenced by Russian off-roaders, particularly the UAZ-469, and first hit the market in 1965 as the Beijing BJ212. In 1989, it was reclassified as part of the BJ2020 series under the new Chinese car classification system. The BJ212 succeeded the BJ210 model and production was shifted to Tianjin's First Auto Works, which continued manufacturing
