The 740d Steptronic uses a 3.0-litre straight-six turbodiesel producing 313 hp and a substantial 630 Nm of torque, paired with an eight-speed Steptronic gearbox in rear-wheel-drive configuration. That torque figure is the highest of any non-V8 variant in the post-facelift F02 range, and the resulting 5.5-second 0 to 100 km/h time is competitive with larger-engined petrol rivals. It occupied the long-wheelbase body through its production run from 2012 to 2015.
