The BMW M3 E46 GTR is a racing variant of the E46-generation M3, developed for GT competition in the early 2000s. Unlike the road-going E46 M3 with its inline-six engine, the GTR was notably powered by a V8 engine derived from BMW's motorsport program, a significant departure from the standard car's architecture. The GTR achieved considerable success in American Le Mans Series competition, where it became a dominant force in its class. Homologation requirements led to a small number of road-legal GTR versions being produced, making those street cars among the rarest and most specialized M3 derivatives ever built.
