The BYD Tang is a mid-size crossover SUV manufactured by BYD Auto, offering options as a battery electric vehicle, a plug-in hybrid, or previously as a conventional ICE vehicle. As part of BYD's "Dynasty" series, it follows the Qin model and is named after the prosperous Tang dynasty in Chinese history. The first-generation Tang was unveiled at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show and initially offered only as a plug-in hybrid. Retail sales commenced in China in June 2015, with the Tang quickly becoming the best-selling plug-in electric passenger car in China in 2016 and the top-selling plug-in hybrid worldwide the same year.
