Callaway

Callaway Cars, an emblem of American automotive innovation, was founded by the visionary Ely Reeves Callaway III in 1977. Starting in his garage in Old Lyme, Connecticut, Reeves initially created a name for Callaway Cars through his pioneering turbo kits, beginning with a transformative project for BMW. His work quickly earned a reputation for excellence, capturing the attention of auto enthusiasts and industry giants alike. By 1987, Callaway had cemented a unique partnership with General Motors, introducing the Callaway Twin Turbo Corvette under the Regular Production Option (RPO) B2K. This collaboration marked a significant milestone, allowing for a modified Corvette to be ordered directly through GM dealerships—a first and only instance for Chevy. The car was a marvel of its time, boasting up to 403 horsepower by the end of its production in 1991, far surpassing the performance of contemporary Ferraris and Porsches, and only matched by the likes of Lamborghini. Despite the discontinuation of the RPO-based ordering process, Callaway has continued to evolve, adapting to new challenges and market dynamics. The company has embraced supercharging technologies and expanded its portfolio to include high-performance versions of GM's SUVs and trucks. Callaway's commitment to engineering excellence remains undiminished, as they continue to produce high-performance automobiles that blend track-capable speed with everyday usability. This enduring legacy of innovation and performance ensures Callaway Cars remains a distinguished name in the automotive world.
