Carbodies

Carbodies was a British coachbuilder founded in Coventry, England, best known for manufacturing the iconic London black taxi cab. The company produced the FX4, introduced in 1958, which became the definitive London hackney carriage and remained in continuous production for decades, making it one of the longest-running vehicle production runs in British automotive history. The FX4S was a revised variant of the same platform, incorporating updates to the drivetrain and interior while retaining the classic upright body shape that had become synonymous with London's streets. Carbodies was acquired by Manganese Bronze Holdings, and the taxi manufacturing operations were eventually transitioned to London Taxi International, continuing the lineage of the FX4 design under new corporate ownership.
