The Austin FX4, known as the iconic London taxi, was a hackney carriage produced from 1958 to 1997, spanning several ownership transitions. Initially sold by Austin from 1958 to 1982, production was later taken over by Carbodies, the manufacturer producing the FX4 for Austin during that time. Carbodies retained the rights to the car for only two years, until 1984, when London Taxis International assumed ownership and continued production until 1997. Over the course of its production run, more than 75,000 FX4s were built, solidifying its status as a classic staple on the streets of London.
