Initially developed by GM Korea, the first generation of the Captiva was based on the GM Theta platform and inspired by the S3X concept car showcased in 2004. Launched in 2006, it was known as the Chevrolet Captiva globally, the Holden Captiva in Australia and New Zealand, and the Daewoo Winstorm in South Korea until 2011 when it was standardized under the international name.
