Chevron Cars Ltd., established by Derek Bennett in 1965 in Bolton, England, emerged as a formidable name in the racing world. This Lancastrian-rooted company distinguished itself from its British peers by remaining in the north, away from the traditional racing car industry hub around South West London and Silverstone. Chevron made its mark with innovative designs predominantly in single-seater formula racing. Throughout the 1970s, virtually every Formula 1 driver of that era had driven a Chevron car at the start of their careers, including notable names like Niki Lauda. Tragically, the death of Derek Bennett in 1978 following a hang-gliding accident marked the beginning of the end for Chevron's original operations. The company underwent various ownership changes but continued its legacy through the production of spare parts and new models under different stewardships. Notable among these was the introduction of continuation models like the B16, and later, under the ownership of WDK Holdings, the continued production of Chevron components and race preparations. Today, Chevron still commands respect in historic racing circles, with their classic models like the B16 and B8 being highly sought after for both racing and collectors. Chevron's current activities under WDK Holdings include manufacturing cars and parts, with a focus on maintaining the brand's legacy in motor racing through continuous innovation and respect for its historic roots. Chevron’s continued influence in historic racing circuits, where their cars remain competitive, is a testament to the enduring legacy of Bennett's designs and the company’s resilience in the evolving automotive landscape.
