Citroen SM

1970 – 1975 · France

The Citroën SM, a high-performance coupé, was produced by Citroën from 1970 to 1975. It emerged from 'Project S,' initiated in 1961 as a sports variant of the Citroën DS, culminating in a completely new and meticulously engineered vehicle. Over a 9-year period, the project transitioned from a faster DS variant to a standalone car, aiming to replace the popular DS model entirely. Citroën's acquisition of Maserati in 1968 facilitated the integration of Maserati's high-performance engine technology into the Citroën SM, resulting in a luxury Gran Tourer melding sophisticated Citroën suspension with a potent Maserati V6 powerplant.
