CT&T, a South Korean electric vehicle manufacturer, was founded in 2002 by Young Gi Lee. The brand initially made headlines with its innovative approach to eco-friendly transportation, offering a range of electric vehicles including the notable eZone and cZone models. The eZone, in particular, gained recognition for its safety and environmental credentials, being the first electric vehicle of its kind to pass international crash tests for passenger vehicles. This model showcased its capabilities prominently during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, highlighting its economical benefits and lack of environmental impact. Despite these promising beginnings and pioneering efforts in the electric vehicle space, CT&T faced significant challenges. Plans for expanding into the U.S. market with a regional assembly system were announced, with facilities planned in Pennsylvania and Hawaii. However, these plans did not fully materialize. The company ceased operations in 2015 after struggling with sales and failing to secure necessary certifications for market entries like California. Today, CT&T serves as a case study in the electric vehicle industry, representing both the potential and pitfalls of pioneering new technologies in the competitive automotive sector. The legacy of CT&T remains in its contribution to pushing forward the concept of electric mobility and the initial acceptance of electric vehicles in various markets.
