The Daewoo Royale was a series of mid-size cars produced by Daewoo in South Korea from 1983 to 1991. The Royale succeeded the Saehan Rekord, which itself was a continuation of the General Motors Korea Rekord launched in 1972. The Saehan Rekord was based on the Opel Rekord D and later evolved into the Saehan Royale in 1978. When Daewoo took over production in 1983, the Saehan Rekord was discontinued and its variants were rebranded as the Daewoo Royale lineup, with the Royale XQ being the new name for the Saehan Rekord.
