To beat strict Japanese emissions laws without losing power, the Auster JX used Nissan’s innovative NAPS-X engine technology, which featured two spark plugs per cylinder for a more efficient burn.
Despite being more luxury-focused than its predecessor, it dominated on the track, famously winning the 1979 and 1980 SCCA Production Category National Championships driven by racing legend Paul Newman.
