Founded in 1931, Datsun is a storied brand within the automotive industry, initially recognized for crafting economical and reliable vehicles. Born out of Japan's DAT Motorcar Co., the brand takes its name from the earlier DAT models, symbolically blending "Datson" to mean the "son of DAT" before transitioning to "Datsun". This change aimed to evoke the dawning of a new day in Japanese, reflecting innovation and progress. Datsun's early success was epitomized by the launch of the 1935 Datsun 14, which was one of the first mass-produced Japanese vehicles, effectively placing the brand at the forefront of the country's automotive industry boom. The car featured a modest but capable 15 horsepower engine, appealing widely due to its affordability and simplicity. However, the journey wasn't consistently upward. Datsun faced numerous challenges, including a branding merger with Nissan in the 1980s, leading to a temporary phase-out of the Datsun name.
