The Ford Transit Connect is a compact panel van produced by Ford since 2002, developed by Ford of Europe as a replacement for sedan-based vans like the Ford Escort and Ford Courier vans. Positioned within the Ford Transit range as the second-smallest vehicle, it fits between the Ford Transit Courier LAV and the Ford Transit Custom LCV/MPV. In Europe, models with side windows and rear seats are marketed as the Ford Tourneo Connect for passengers. Originally introduced in North America in 2010, both first and second-generation Transit Connect models have been imported. To bypass the 25% "chicken tax" on imported light trucks, all vehicles have been brought in as passenger vans and converted to cargo vans after importation. This strategy
