GAZ, or Gorkovsky avtomobilny zavod, is a prominent Russian automotive manufacturer situated in Nizhny Novgorod, previously known as Gorky, operating since its establishment in 1932. It serves as the primary subsidiary of GAZ Group Holding, a part of the Basic Element industrial group, with controlling ownership held by JSC Russian Machines in OAO GAZ. The origins of GAZ trace back to a significant agreement between the Soviet Union and the American Ford Motor Company in May 1929. The agreement outlined a deal where the Soviets committed to purchasing automobiles and parts totaling $13 million from Ford. In return, Ford provided technical assistance until 1938 for the construction of a complete automobile production
