Hanomag

Hanomag, short for Hannoversche Maschinenfabrik AG, was a German industrial manufacturer founded in Hanover in 1835, originally producing locomotives and heavy machinery before expanding into automobiles in the 1920s. The company is best known in automotive circles for the Kommissbrot, a small economy car produced from 1925 to 1928 that used a rear-mounted single-cylinder engine and a fully enclosed body at a time when such design was unusual for budget vehicles. The Typ 13 and the Rekord were among the small passenger cars Hanomag produced during the late 1920s and into the 1930s, targeting the affordable end of the German market as the company worked to establish itself as a credible automobile maker. Hanomag continued producing both vehicles and industrial equipment, including tractors and trucks, but exited passenger car production before World War II and eventually became primarily known as a manufacturer of construction machinery and commercial vehicles. The automotive passenger car side of the brand is long defunct, though the Hanomag name persisted in heavy equipment circles well into the latter half of the twentieth century.
