Heron Cars, founded by Ross Baker in New Zealand, was a maker of racing, sports, and kit cars from 1962 to 1999. The brand is most noted for the Heron MJ1, a mid-engined coupe unveiled at the 1981 Auckland motor show. Despite initial enthusiasm, with 33 orders, production issues and financial struggles led to the MJ1's discontinuation in 1985 amid competition from more affordable Japanese imports. Today, Heron Cars is remembered for its innovative but short-lived contributions to the automotive world, particularly in specialty and racing vehicles.
