The Honda Civic Type R is a renowned series of hot hatchback and sports sedan models introduced in September 1997 by Honda. The Type R designation, following the NSX and Integra, signifies high performance and racing-inspired features. These specialized Civics are characterized by a focus on performance enhancements such as a lightened and stiffened body, a specially tuned engine, upgraded brakes, and a responsive chassis. They are exclusively offered with manual transmissions of either five or six speeds. The inaugural Civic Type R emerged as the third model to bear Honda's Type R badge, taking cues from the sixth-generation 'EK' Civic. The distinct red background on the Honda badge is a hallmark of the Type R series, setting it apart from other Civic variants.
