The Honda Inspire, a mid-size sedan derived from the Honda Accord chassis, originated in late 1989 as the Accord Inspire and was sold alongside the Honda Vigor in Japan. The Inspire was marketed as part of the Honda Verno retail channels for the Vigor/Saber and separately as the Inspire at Honda Clio stores. In 1995, the Inspire was updated and introduced to the US market as the Acura 3.2 TL, while the Vigor was replaced by the Honda Saber. The Acura 2.5 TL was also available with a longitudinal 2.5L straight-five engine layout.
