Imperial, the illustrious luxury car brand under Chrysler, began its journey in 1926. Envisioned by Walter P. Chrysler as a contender in the high-end auto market, the Imperial was an epitome of luxury, designed to compete with the likes of Cadillac and Lincoln. Initially part of the Chrysler lineup, the Imperial made a name for itself with advanced features and sophisticated engineering, achieving feats like setting a transcontinental speed record in its debut year. In 1955, Imperial was established as a standalone brand to better compete in the luxury car segment. This era marked the introduction of the iconic "Forward Look" styling by Virgil Exner, which distinguished Imperials with their flamboyant fins and elegant contours throughout the late 1950s and early 1960s. The brand was known for its bold styling choices, including the unique free-standing "gunsight" taillights and a broad, split grille that became signature elements.
