The Kia K5, previously known as the Kia Optima, is a mid-size car produced by Kia since 2000 and has been sold globally under various nameplates. Initially, the first-generation models were marketed as the Optima in most regions, with the name Kia Magentis used in Europe and Canada after sales began in 2002. Later on, for the second-generation models, the name Kia Lotze and Kia K5 were used in the South Korean market, while the name Magentis was used worldwide except in specific regions like the United States, Canada, Malaysia, and the Middle East, where the Optima branding was retained until the 2021 model year. The K5 name has been adopted for all markets following the introduction of the fifth generation in 2019. During the period from 2000 to 2005, the Optimas were essentially rebadged versions of the Hyundai Sonata, with minimal differences in exterior styling and features compared to the Sonata. This collaboration reflected the shared platform and design elements between Kia and Hyundai at the time.
