Kia Sorento XM

2009 – 2014

The Kia Sorento is a family SUV manufactured by South Korean manufacturer Kia since 2002, available in two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive options. The first generation, launched in 2002, was a compact SUV on a body-on-frame chassis, offering strong off-road capability with optional four-wheel drive and low range systems. Dual front airbags and dual side-curtain airbags were standard in all American models of this generation. With the second generation, Kia transitioned the Sorento to a larger car-based platform, placing it in the mid-size crossover SUV class. Developed alongside the Hyundai Santa Fe, the Sorento now competes in the global SUV market between the smaller Sportage and larger Telluride models. The development of the Sorento over four generations reflects Kia's commitment to offering a versatile and competitive SUV lineup. Key points about the Kia Sorento include its evolution from a truck-based body-on-frame SUV to a mid-size crossover on a car-based platform, the availability of both two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive versions, and its position between the Sportage and Telluride in Kia's SUV lineup. The Sorento's off-road capabilities, safety features such as airbags, and its place in the competitive mid-size SUV market make it a popular choice for families seeking a blend of versatility and functionality in a vehicle.
