Lobini

Founded in 1999, Lobini is a niche player in the automotive industry, originating from the entrepreneurial spirit of José Orlando Lobo and Fábio Birolini. The name Lobini itself is a meld of its founders' surnames, underlining their personal investment in crafting a distinctly Brazilian sports car. The duo envisioned creating a vehicle that could stand shoulder to shoulder with the best international sports cars. Their flagship model, the Lobini H1, was introduced to the public in 2002 at the São Paulo Motor Show and started production in 2005. It features a Volkswagen 1.8L turbocharged engine—similar to those found in the Volkswagen Golf and Audi A3—and sports a fiberglass body designed to combine performance with style. Over the years, the H1 saw several updates, including a minor redesign in 2007, introducing new aesthetic features and a racing model. The car's design was a collaborative effort with Graham Holmes, a former designer at Lotus, which provided the vehicle with a pedigree in sports car design. Despite its achievements and international ambitions, including exports to markets like the UK, Lobini struggled to find a broad market. The high price point limited its accessibility to a wider audience in Brazil, leading to modest production figures over its active years. By 2013, production ceased, marking the end of Lobini's ambitious venture into the sports car market. Today, the Lobini H1 remains a testament to Brazilian engineering and entrepreneurial spirit, cherished by car enthusiasts who appreciate its unique blend of performance and design.
