Lotus Carlton

1990 – 1992

Lotus›Carlton

The Lotus Carlton is a high-performance executive saloon produced between 1990 and 1992 as a joint project between Lotus and Vauxhall, sold under the Opel Omega badge in continental Europe. It was built on the Vauxhall Carlton bodyshell but extensively reworked by Lotus, receiving a twin-turbocharged 3.6-litre inline-six engine producing 377 bhp, a six-speed manual gearbox, and revised suspension, brakes, and bodywork. At the time of its release, it was capable of reaching 176 mph, making it one of the fastest production saloons in the world and attracting significant media controversy in the UK over its public availability. Production was limited to around 950 units across left- and right-hand-drive markets, with no distinct sub-variants beyond the regional badging differences between the Vauxhall and Opel versions.
