The first-generation Lotus Emira launched in 2021 as the final internal combustion-engined model in the Lotus Cars lineup, a distinction that gives it considerable historical weight for the brand. Unveiled at Hethel on July 6, 2021 and shown publicly at the Goodwood Festival of Speed two days later, it was built around a 3,456 cc supercharged V6 producing performance sufficient for a 290 km/h top speed within a kerb weight of 1,405 kg. The generation includes the First Edition variant, which represented the opening commercial expression of the platform. As a mid-engined British sports car designed to close out Lotus's petrol era, it carries a significance beyond its specifications alone.
