Maytag-Mason

Nestled in the annals of automotive lore, the Maytag-Mason Motor Company offers a poignant glimpse into the ambitious era of early 20th-century car manufacturing. Founded by Frederick Maytag, better known for his advancements in the washing machine industry, the company ventured into the automotive world with equal parts enthusiasm and innovation. Teaming up with the resourceful Elmer Mason, Maytag aimed to translate his success with household appliances into the burgeoning automobile industry. Their flagship creation, the Maytag-Mason Model A, was a testament to their commitment to quality and performance. Launched in 1910, this car was more than just a vehicle; it was a bold statement of durability and efficiency. Equipped with a unique air-cooled engine, the Model A distinguished itself from the plethora of water-cooled engines prevalent at the time, setting a precedent in engineering ingenuity. However, despite its groundbreaking approach, Maytag-Mason was short-lived. The company ceased automobile production in 1911, as Maytag decided to refocus on his thriving appliance business. Today, the legacy of Maytag-Mason endures primarily among classic car enthusiasts and historians. Their brief foray into automotive manufacturing remains a fascinating chapter of innovation, underscoring a fleeting yet significant impact on the automotive landscape.
