The Mazda MX-5 (NC) is the third generation of the iconic Mazda MX-5, produced from 2005 to 2015. In 2005, the NC model was awarded the prestigious Car of the Year Japan Award and consistently featured on Car and Driver's 10Best list from 2006 to 2013. One of the standout features of the NC generation was the introduction of a retractable hardtop variant, allowing for quick transformation of the roof which folded or deployed in just 12 seconds, without compromising trunk space. During the years 2006 to 2008 (NC1), the NC showcased exterior styling by Yasushi Nakamuta which did not share components with its predecessor, the NB, except for some specifics like fender-mounted turn signal lights on non-U.S. models, and rear differential internals. The chief designer overseeing the development of this model generation was Moray Callum, who contributed to the unique design elements and features that set the NC apart within the MX-5 lineup.
