The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, also known as the C199 / R199 / Z199, is a grand touring car that was developed through a collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and McLaren Automotive. Produced from 2003 to 2010, the creation of this vehicle was a joint effort due to Mercedes-Benz owning 40 percent of the McLaren Group at the time. The name "SLR" stands for "Sport Leicht Rennsport" (Sport Light Racing) and pays tribute to the legendary Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR, which served as the inspiration behind the car's design.
