The Mercedes-Benz W123, a series of executive cars, was manufactured by German automaker Mercedes-Benz from November 1975 to January 1986. These models outperformed their predecessors, the Mercedes-Benz W114 series, becoming Mercedes' most successful line with a total of 2.7 million units sold by the end of production in 1985 for the saloon/sedan versions and 1986 for coupés and estates/station wagons. Initial production of the W123 was slow, resulting in a significant waiting period of nine to twelve months for customers who placed orders. This led to the emergence of a black market where customers could pay a premium for immediate delivery, with slightly used W123 models commanding about 5,
