The Mercury Grand Marquis, produced from 1975 to 2011 by Mercury, started as a sub-model under the Mercury Marquis but later became a separate model in 1983. Throughout its production run, the Grand Marquis shared the rear-wheel drive (RWD) Panther platform with the Ford LTD Crown Victoria (later known as the Ford Crown Victoria) from 1979 to 2011.
