Mercury Mountaineer

1996 – 2010 · USA

Mercury›Mountaineer

The Mercury Mountaineer was a mid-size luxury SUV offered by Mercury from 1996 until 2010. Sharing similarities with the Ford Explorer, both vehicles were nearly identical in terms of hardware, with exterior styling being one of the main distinguishing features. The Mountaineer was positioned as a more upscale option compared to the Explorer, reflected in its higher MSRP which was typically $1,000 to $6,000 more. The last redesign of the Mountaineer occurred in 2006, where it received an updated frame but retained a similar appearance to its previous models. Controversy arose surrounding the Mountaineer and Explorer fitted with Firestone tires, as the media highlighted a series of rollover incidents associated with these tire installations.
