MG is a British automotive marque with a rich history spanning back to the 1920s, when Cecil Kimber founded the company. The M.G. Car Company Limited, established in 1930, was responsible for manufacturing the brand's iconic sports cars until 1972. Originally started as a sales promotion sideline of Morris Garages in Oxford, MG cars quickly gained popularity for their unique modifications on standard Morris Oxfords, such as the addition of the distinctive MG Super Sports plate on the front of the vehicles. In 2007, the MG marque came under the control of Chinese state-owned automaker SAIC Motor, marking a new chapter in the brand's ownership.
