Microcar

Microcar, a distinguished French microcar manufacturer, has carved its niche in the automotive world with its focus on license-exempt vehicles. Founded in 1984, initially as part of the Bénéteau group—a major sailboat manufacturer—Microcar has always been at the forefront of compact urban mobility solutions. The company transitioned to a new custom-built factory in 2000, marking a new era of innovation and production expansion. In a significant development in 2008, Microcar was acquired by Ligier Automobiles, backed by the Italian equity firm 21 Investimenti Partners. This acquisition merged two of the leading names in the microcar industry under one roof, forming Europe's second-largest microcar manufacturer and the largest maker of 'quadricycles' or license-exempt vehicles. This strategic move helped both brands retain their unique identities while sharing resources and technological expertise. Today, Microcar offers a variety of models including the popular M.Go line, introduced in 2009, and available in several trim levels including electric versions, reflecting the brand's commitment to eco-friendly transportation solutions. Despite fierce competition in the microcar segment, Microcar continues to innovate and adapt, ensuring its vehicles meet the evolving needs of urban drivers across Europe and beyond.
