The Mitsubishi Pajero, also known as Montero in North America and Shogun in the UK, is a full-size SUV that has been globally manufactured by Mitsubishi in four generations, starting in 1981 and ending in 2021. The name "Pajero" is derived from the Pampas cat, Leopardus pajeros. Due to the derogatory connotation of "pajero" (meaning "wanker") in Spanish, the Montero name was used in North America, Spain, and Latin America (except Brazil and Jamaica). In the UK, it was named Shogun, which translates to "General" in Japanese. The model was discontinued in North America in 2006. In addition to the main Pajero lineup, Mitsubishi also used the names Montero and Shogun for other models that were unrelated mechanically. This included the Pajero Mini kei car, Pajero Junior, and Pajero iO/Pinin mini SUVs, as well as the Triton-based Pajero/Montero/Shogun Sport mid-size SUVs. Key Points: 1.
