Mitsuoka

Mitsuoka Motor Co., Ltd. is a distinctive player in the automotive industry, known for its dedication to creating retro-styled vehicles that blend classic aesthetics with modern mechanics. Founded in 1968 by Susumu Mitsuoka, the company began by customizing and selling used cars before transitioning to manufacturing unique vehicles that echo the charm of British and American cars of the 1950s and 1960s. The company's first original model, the Mitsuoka Viewt, was introduced in 1993. It resembles the 1963 Jaguar Mark 2 and is based on the Nissan March/Micra. The Viewt became a symbol of Mitsuoka’s identity, combining nostalgia with reliability, and it played a pivotal role in influencing other Japanese manufacturers to explore retro designs. Today, Mitsuoka continues to make waves with models like the Orochi, a sports car named after a mythical Japanese dragon, and the Rock Star, which commemorates the company's 50th anniversary with design cues from the Chevrolet Corvette C2. The Orochi was notably known for its bold, if polarizing, design and was often referred to as the "World's Ugliest Car" by critics, highlighting the brand's flair for creating distinctive vehicles that stand out in the automotive landscape. In its recent endeavors, Mitsuoka has embraced modern trends while still maintaining its signature style. The company's approach to blending the old with the new ensures it remains a notable, niche player in the global car market, continuing to attract those who appreciate its unique aesthetic and automotive philosophy.
