Nissan Exa N13

1986 – 1990 · Japan

The Nissan Pulsar EXA and Nissan EXA were compact cars manufactured by Nissan Motor Company during the 1980s. The first generation, known as the Pulsar EXA, was produced from 1983 to 1986 and was designated as the N12 series. It was marketed in Japan at Nissan Cherry Store locations. The Pulsar EXA was aimed at a younger demographic and followed a successful strategy of offering an affordable two-door coupe based on the popular Nissan Sunny platform. The design of the Pulsar EXA was influenced by the tradition of the Sunny Coupe, which had been in production since the 1960s. The development of the Pulsar EXA took place at a design center in Tokyo that had roots in the former Prince Motor Company. The second generation EXA, known as the N13 series, was produced from 1986 to 1990. Both generations were sold in North America as the Nissan Pulsar NX. The Pulsar NX continued the trend of offering a compact and stylish coupe targeted at a youthful audience. The overall design and marketing strategy of the Pulsar EXA and EXA were influenced by the success of the Nissan Sunny and its coupe variants. By maintaining a separate identity at Nissan Cherry Store locations, the Pulsar EXA reinforced its appeal as a sporty and dynamic offering within Nissan's lineup.
