Panhard et Levassor, a pioneering French automobile brand founded by René Panhard and Émile Levassor in 1887, played a crucial role in automotive history. The duo began their venture into automobiles by securing a license to produce Daimler engines, setting a foundation that would influence the motor industry significantly. Their first car, produced in 1890, featured a front-mounted engine and rear-wheel drive, a configuration that became a standard known as the "Systeme Panhard." The early years saw Panhard et Levassor make substantial advancements, including the development of the Panhard rod and the use of sleeve valve technology. These innovations underscored the brand's commitment to engineering excellence, which was evident in their racing successes from 1895 to 1903 and the setting of a world record for the fastest hour run in 1925 with a 4.8-liter engine. Despite their early dominance, Panhard's prominence in passenger cars waned post-World War II, transitioning towards military vehicle production after being absorbed by Citroën in 1965. The last Panhard passenger car was produced in 1967. Today, the Panhard name lives on in the military sector, following its acquisition by Auverland in 2005, which now specializes in light tactical and military vehicles under the historic Panhard name
