The Dodge Omni and the Plymouth Horizon are subcompact cars manufactured by Chrysler Corporation from 1978 to 1990. These vehicles marked Chrysler's first foray into front-wheel-drive models and were the initial front-wheel-drive economy cars produced in the United States. Despite minimal updates over eleven years, approximately 2.5 million Omnis and Horizons were made, with the Plymouth versions being more popular than their Dodge counterparts.
These cars were based on a design from Chrysler Europe, known as the Chrysler Horizon, making them the only global model developed by Chrysler. However, significant modifications were made to the American versions to comply with US regulations and appeal to the market. Visually similar to the European model, the Omni and Horizon featured distinct functional differences.
