Purvis Eureka

The Purvis Eureka, an Australian icon in the kit car scene, was introduced at the 1974 Melbourne International Motor Show. Conceived by Allan Purvis, the Eureka borrowed its design from the British Nova kit car but added a distinct local flavor by adopting the name and emblem of the 1854 Eureka Stockade rebellion. Its sleek, doorless design featured a one-piece canopy, contributing to its distinct look and appeal. Manufactured in Dandenong, Victoria, from 1974 to 1991, the Eureka was built on a Volkswagen Beetle chassis and initially offered with VW air-cooled engines, though later models included options like Ford Cortina engines and even Mazda rotary engines. These variations catered to enthusiasts looking for a customizable driving experience. The Eureka was offered in several models, including the initial Sports version, followed by the PL30 and the F4, which introduced features like a Targa top and improved headroom. Despite its discontinuation in 1991 with a production count of 683 units, the Purvis Eureka remains a celebrated piece of Australian automotive history. Its legacy continues with the availability of parts and support for enthusiasts aiming to restore or maintain their vehicles, ensuring that these distinctive sports cars can still be appreciated on the roads toda
