REO

Founded by Ransom E. Olds in 1905, REO Motor Car Company started with a bang in the automotive industry. After his departure from Oldsmobile, Olds established REO in Lansing, Michigan, setting the stage for a series of innovative automotive and transportation solutions. The brand quickly made its mark with the REO Runabout, an early example of motor vehicle engineering that catered to a burgeoning group of auto enthusiasts. REO was notable not just for its cars but also for its commercial vehicles, which became mainstays in North American logistics. The company's success was marked by a commitment to quality and innovation, evidenced by the enduring popularity of models like the REO Speed Wagon, which found a niche in both personal and commercial transport. However, the latter half of the 20th century saw REO's fortunes decline. The company ceased manufacturing passenger cars in the 1930s to focus on trucks, and eventually, the pressures of an intensely competitive market led to its absorption into larger corporate entities. Today, REO's legacy lives on primarily in vintage car circles, where its pioneering early models are celebrated for their historical significance and craftsmanship, a testament to the indelible mark REO left on the automotive landscape.
