Roosevelt

The Roosevelt automobile, manufactured by the Marmon Motor Car Company of Indianapolis in 1929 and 1930, holds a unique place in American automotive history. Named after President Theodore Roosevelt, the brand epitomized affordable luxury with an initial price tag of under $1,000—a pioneering feat for an eight-cylinder car at the time. The Roosevelt was designed to appeal to the thrifty yet style-conscious American, blending performance with affordability in an era of economic unpredictability. Roosevelt's lineup included diverse models like the Five-Passenger Sedan, Victoria Coupe, and a Coupe with a rumble seat, each powered by a robust 70 hp straight-eight engine. This period marked a significant milestone as Roosevelt became the first automobile to offer factory-ready radio installation—a notable innovation at the time. Despite its early success and a production run that saw approximately 24,500 units sold in its first year, the marque was short-lived. The economic pressures of the Great Depression and the evolving automotive market dynamics led to Roosevelt's integration into the more upscale Marmon Model 70 by 1931. Today, the Roosevelt remains a symbol of early 20th-century innovation and a nostalgic reflection on a bygone era of automotive history. Its brief but bright existence is a testament to Marmon's commitment to engineering excellence and market adaptation, leaving a legacy that is cherished by vintage automobile enthusiasts.
