The Saab 900, produced by Swedish manufacturer Saab from 1978 to 1998, was a mid-sized automobile available in two generations. The first generation ran between 1978 and 1994, and the second generation was produced from 1994 to 1998. The initial version of the car was based on the Saab 99 chassis but featured design modifications to comply with U.S. frontal crash regulations and accommodate turbo-charged engines, air conditioning, and other advanced equipment not found in the earlier 99 model. The 900 was offered as a 2- or 4-door sedan, as well as in 3- or 5-door hatchback configurations. Additionally, a convertible model was introduced in 1986. The first-generation Saab 900 was available with various engine options, including single and twin-Zenith carburettors, fuel injection, and turbocharged engines like the Full Pressure Turbo (FPT) and Low Pressure Turbos (LPT) in European models from the early 1990s. The car featured a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout with a longitudinally mounted inline four-cylinder engine. It also had a 45-degree canted engine placement, double wishbone front suspension, and beam-axle rear suspension.
