Saehan Motors, a transient yet notable name in South Korea's automotive history, was established in 1976, evolving from a partnership between Shinjin Motors and General Motors following Toyota's exit from the Korean market. This venture, initially named General Motors Korea, soon transitioned to Saehan Motors when financial turmoil within Shinjin led to the sale of its shares to the Korea Development Bank. Under the new brand, Saehan embarked on producing a variety of vehicles largely based on existing GM models, with the Chevrolet 1700 being rebadged as the Saehan Camina. The brand's product lineup was diverse. The Saehan Gemini, initially an adaptation of the 1974 Isuzu Bellett Gemini, was later developed into the Maepsy—a model significant enough to warrant a pickup version, the Saehan Max. Another notable model was the Saehan Rekord, based on the Opel Rekord, which marked a significant step in the brand's journey in automotive manufacturing. Saehan's journey was short-lived, operating only until the early 1980s when it was succeeded by Daewoo, marking a new chapter in Korean automotive history. Despite its brief existence, Saehan's contributions to the Korean automotive industry, especially its early ventures into adapting and rebranding foreign models for the local market, were pivotal during a critical period of industrial transformation in South Korea
