Simca

Simca, an acronym for Société Industrielle de Mécanique et Carrosserie Automobile, was a notable French automaker founded in 1934, with its early operations facilitated by a collaboration with Fiat. This relationship was reflected in the first cars produced under the Simca name, which were essentially rebranded Fiat models. Henri Pigozzi, a key figure in the company, played a central role in steering its direction from its inception until the mid-1960s. The brand's real stride in innovation began post-World War II, marked by the launch of the Simca Aronde in 1951, the first model not based on Fiat designs. This car heralded a period of rapid growth and success for Simca, achieving an impressive production milestone of 100,000 units annually. The 1950s and 60s saw Simca expand through acquisitions and new models, like the Simca 1000, which further solidified its market position. However, the company's trajectory changed in the late 1950s when Chrysler began acquiring stakes in Simca, eventually taking full control by 1963. This transition initiated a new era where Simca models bore the Chrysler badge. Despite successes like the Simca 1100, which enjoyed popularity in France, Chrysler's management couldn't sustain the brand's former glory. By 1970, Simca had lost its independence, becoming a mere brand under Chrysler Europe. The story of Simca concluded in the late 1970s when Chrysler divested its European operations to PSA Peugeot Citroën, which phased out the Simca brand in favor of the Talbot identity
