GPT Sipani Automobiles Ltd., initially known as Sunrise Automotive Industries Ltd., was founded in 1973 in Bangalore, India. Initially collaborating with British manufacturer Reliant, Sipani's first notable model was the Badal, a three-wheeled vehicle inspired by the Reliant Robin. The company made a significant mark with the Sipani Dolphin in the 1980s, a car known for its fiberglass body and affordability compared to contemporaries like the Maruti 800. However, despite these early innovations, Sipani struggled to maintain market relevance. Their later models, such as the Montana and the Rover Montego assembled under contract, failed to revive the brand, leading to a decline in production and influence in the automotive industry. Today, Sipani's legacy is more a footnote in the Indian automotive narrative, marked by brief successes but ultimately overshadowed by larger industry players.
