Suzuki Grand Vitara ET

1998 – 2005

The Suzuki Vitara is a popular series of SUVs manufactured by Suzuki since 1988, spanning five generations. The second and third generations were branded as the Suzuki Grand Vitara, while the fourth generation dropped the "Grand" designation. In some markets, including Japan, all iterations of the vehicle were marketed as the Suzuki Escudo. The nomenclature for the Vitara was chosen based on specific inspirations. The name "Vitara" is derived from the Latin word "vita," which translates to "vitality" in English, reflecting the vehicle's energetic and robust characteristics. On the other hand, "Escudo," predominantly used in the Japanese market, references the former Portuguese currency unit, the "escudo," before the country adopted the Euro. Key Points: 1. The Suzuki Vitara SUV series has been in production by Suzuki since 1988 over five generations. 2. The second and third generations were named Suzuki Grand Vitara, with the fourth shedding the "Grand" moniker. 3. In certain markets, such as Japan, all versions were marketed under the Suzuki Escudo name. 4. The name "Vitara" is inspired by the Latin word for vitality, reflecting the vehicle's liveliness. 5. The name "Escudo" is a nod to the former Portuguese currency unit, representing a historical reference.
