Timor

Timor stands as a notable chapter in Indonesia's automotive industry, initiated by the entrepreneurial spirit of Bambang Trihatmodjo in the mid-1990s. The brand emerged under the auspices of the national car program, aiming to put Indonesia on the automotive map. Timor's inception was marked by the introduction of the Timor S515/S516, models that mirrored the design and specifications of the Kia Sephia, reflecting a strategic partnership with South Korea's Kia Motors. The brand was poised to revolutionize the local auto market by offering affordable, quality vehicles, securing a temporary exemption from luxury goods tax to keep prices competitive. However, Timor's journey was riddled with challenges. Controversies regarding the nature of its national car status and subsequent tax issues led to public debates and legal battles, significantly impacting its market presence. Today, Timor’s operations have dwindled, with its initial surge in the market fading into a quieter legacy. The brand no longer produces new models, but its impact on the Indonesian automotive landscape remains a topic of interest for industry analysts and car enthusiasts alike, reflecting on what was once a bold endeavor in a challenging market.
