Toyota Carina A60

1982 – 1988 · Japan

The Toyota Carina was an iconic automobile produced by Toyota from December 1970 to December 2001. Initially designed as a sedan companion to the Celica, it shared a platform with the sporty counterpart. However, the Carina later transitioned to the Corona platform while maintaining its performance-oriented design cues to appeal to the youth market. Exclusive to Japanese Toyota dealerships known as Toyota Store, the Carina featured distinctive bodywork and interior elements. Named after the constellation Carina, the Carina reflected a celestial and heavenly theme, akin to the Celica whose name traces back to the Latin word "coelica." The focus on performance and youthful appeal made the Carina a popular choice in the Japanese market. In 2001, the Toyota Carina was succeeded by the Toyota Allion in Japan and replaced in Europe by the Toyota Avensis. The model's legacy lies in its unique design, performance features, and its distinctive presence in the Japanese automotive market. Key Points: 1. Manufactured by Toyota from 1970 to 2001. 2.
