The Toyota Prius v, known as Prius α in Japan and Prius+ in Europe and Singapore, is a hybrid gasoline-electric car manufactured by Toyota. It was first introduced in Japan in May 2011, followed by releases in the U.S. in October 2011 and Europe in June 2012. Unveiled at the 2011 North American International Auto Show alongside the Prius c Concept, the Prius v is the first model derived from the Prius platform. The "v" in its name signifies its versatility, as it is designed to be a compact MPV with a full hybrid drivetrain. In Japan, the Prius α was available with both nickel-metal hydride and lithium-ion battery options
